Platypus Hair Salon is in an older two story building on the Drag across from UT. It's simply a pleasant room with wood floors and nice light, a few plants, music, and a great shampoo sink/massage recliner. There is also a chair for cutting hair and a couple of places to sit and check out magazines or have something to drink.
I've been doing hair in Austin over thirteen years. Styles change with the seasons and every day is unlike the day before. It's a good life.
I was certified by the State of Texas as a Cosmetologist graduating from the Toni & Guy Academy in 1993. Later training was at Avant Salon where I worked for about 5 years before opening a salon in 2000.
My favorite way to approach hairstyling is to work with the shape of the head, the movements of the growth patterns, the hair's natural texture, and a reasonable amount of product and efficient styling methods to create a style that you will be able to maintain and have fun with and not have to spend hours every week just to be okay with how you look. This is a haircutting salon. Color and chemical services can be referred to professionals I trust to do a good job if these are services you also require.
We'll talk about your hair before we do the scalp massage/shampoo treatment and I'll style it for you after the haircut. I have wine, beer, sodas, and all that kind of thing. So, a visit to the salon should be a relaxing and enjoyable time that helps you not have anything but wonderful happy hair days for ever and ever. As long as you condition your hair correctly and schedule haircuts at intervals that are appropriate to your tastes...
I only do haircuts and the styling of those haircuts. No chemicals or waxing here at Platypus.
